zelnorm

Finally got zelnorm. Purchased it from my own pocket instead of waiting for insurance pre authorization. (can take upto 3 business days)
First dose at 12. Ate lunch at 1 (lauki + moong dal). Diarrhea at 1:30. What a relief !
Bowel movement in the morning today was absymal. Hard stools(happen infrequently). At 1:30, first the hard stools (lot of the) got out. Followed by diarrhea. Easier to breathe now. Realized that backedup stool make it difficult to properly breathe and cloud your mind.
According to zelnorm instructions - first week is diarreha and then the body adjusts. Am hoping for at least 1 good week. The information / instructions are not clear on if the medicine is to be continued lifelong or if it cures the motility disorder. At least for 4 weeks I should be ok I guess.
Hopefully biofeedback and some more changes may help. Also thinking of contacting the dietitian to get some high calorie food for weight gain
What did I eat on 11/29:
Sooji / milk morning
Bhartha / moong dal / roti afternoon (1 pm)/ hawaiin papaya
asparagus / dal / 2 roti evening 5:30 pm
orange / grapes /half cup milk 11:00 pm

Result: Hard stools on 11/30.

Pain and doc visit

Pain continued throughout hte night of 11/28 and into the morning 11/29. Little bowel movement. Called the doctor again at 10. Got a call at 11 to come in and see smita at 12. Pain had reduced by 12.
Explained the symptoms to smita. She summarized them as abdominal discomfort and bloating. She did not seem to have known that colonoscopy was done. On reminding her - she looked up the records and said that biopsy will take a week or two. Asked if biofeedback appointment can be taken in parallel. Her response: You are rushing me. It is a stepwise process. Biopsy may also reveal the cause of constipation. Then we explained that since scheduling takes so much time and if biofeedback is a certainty (given the failure of ballon explusion in anal manomtery) -then it may be prudent to take an appointment now to expedite the process. She repeated (firmly). You guys are pressurizing me. Medicine is not all black and white. There is a lot of gray area. You have to appreciate it. Then I asked how do I survive day to day. She said be patient.
She then prescribed zelnorm. Said that she is not going prescribe a laxative(KUB testng had revealed stool backup earlier) because she wants to understand zelnorm effect. That will take a week or two. She also mentioned wanting to do defactography after biopsy results come in and before asking for biofeedback. She said that defactography unlike breath test (which is not available until 2 months later) will be done within a week or ten days. She also said that don't call me in 2 days if you have problems. (ie. figure out the cause and manage the pain / discomfort yourself)
We mentioned about T wanting to refer to dietitian. She gave a referral accordingly
So now the best case scenario is : Zelnorm works. Biopsy results after 1 week. Defactorgraphy in another week. Biofeedback referral and scheduling in another 15 days. So beginning biofeedback in January
Worst case scneraio is: Zelnorm complicates matters. Biopsy results not available in 2 weeks also. Defactography not availabe due to christmas and other scheduling constraints. Can't see how I can survive this so not thinking about it anymore.

Have asked people in blr to find out about docs in similar area. No responses so far.
Zelnorm available through preauthorization only. So could not get it on 11/30. Finally found out that I can purchase a supply of my own money while they wait for insurance. Have asked for it

11/31: Very hard stool. Does not happen that often. Holding off on citrucel now (took it on 11/28 and 11/29)

Other points to note:
After taking the magnesium citrate laxative on Fri 11/17 - things were manageable. Had somewhat satisfactory evacuation every day. On sat 11/25, even had diarrhea. The only difference was that after taking the citrate - stools were somewhat delayed.Earlier I used to pass immediately on getting up. Citrucel definitely helped curb the gas formation. Did not take any fiber from 11/17 to 11/21. Straining during stool passing increased as a result

Also eating only vata type foods.

Post colonoscopy

Post colonoscopy experience
Colonoscopy was a breeze. No post procedure pain. Felt light. Ate mixed veggies over high flame and pink dal with roti for lunch. Then ate fruits (avocado + kiwi) and again similar dinner (sprouted mung beans added to veggies). Even had a small (half katori) serving of wintermelon halwa. Grapes / milk at night.

Bloated in the morning. Lots of pressure to evacuate.Passed very little stool(not that solid)
Rounded stomach. 1 roti / 1 katori opo / 1 tbsp veggies for lunch. Lots of pressure to evacuate. In fact sitting in sitz bath helped to move the stool a bit.
Called the doc in the morning. T or smita not in today. Nurse called (and interrupted the conversation with front desk) for follow up after colonoscopy. Since no bleeding / no fever so probably nurse concluded that nothing colonoscopy specific. After calling again, front desk said that T is gonna be in probably in the afternoon.
No sign of any call from T in the afternoon. Called again. Complained of developing pain in stomach . Was assured that someone will call . No one called.
Ate a kiwi / drank half orange juice / half hawain papaya in the afternoon. Lots of water. Pain reduced in the evening but am fearful of it starting up again if I eat something more

Action items:
Ask for referral for dietitian / biofeedback. It will be anotehr week by the time biopsy results come in. That will delay biofeedback (if it helps). Most probably will be told to wait
What about stool test?
Find out if a gastro in blr/ bby who specializes in motility disorder
